Background:
Auj's mother was a Doman Raen of somewhat high standing who created waves and controversy by getting pregnant while being unmarried, and for refusing to divulge the identity of her unborn child's father. All this was brushed aside to deal with later when the Garlean Empire began its invasion of Doma, most of her family joining the fight with Lord Kaien against the Empire while she and the rest remained on the family estate. As Doma fell to the Empire, she made a run for freedom, making her way to the Azim Steppe. She was gravely wounded as she fled, and even heavily pregnant managed to reach the Steppe and was found by the Malaguld clan. She died shortly after, her final words referring to "Eorzea" and "dragon" confusing the clan.
Auj was born posthumously, the Malaguld's udghan cutting her from her mother and adopting her as his daughter and her mother was buried as a member of the Malaguld.
She lived a normal nomadic Steppe life, learning the arts of archery as well as how to wield a sword and ride a horse, fending off raiding parties from other clans, as well as learning of Nhaama and Azim and everything any young Au Ra of the Steppe would need to know.
When she was older her adoptive father told her about her mother, explaining her clan finding her mother and her mother's final words. Her interest piqued by her adoptive father, Auj knew that she had to go to Eorzea to try and find her blood father, and to understand why he had sired her and left her mother to die, so she said her farwells to her tribe and made the dangerous journey through the steppes to Namai, then to Hingashi and managed to smuggle herself to Eorzea.
Once in Eorzea, she was stunned by how different it was from her homeland, but upon making her first major stop in the city state of Ul’dah, she was shocked at the condition and treatment of the poor and the refugees there, and how people seemed to brush them aside and treat them with disrespect, simply because they did not have enough coin. Her resolve was only strengthened when she saw how far those in charge would go to ensure that their grasp on power could not be questioned or shaken, and so Auj put the search for her father on hold, and took up the sword to protect those that no one cared about and abused for profit.

Despite the hardships and harshness of Steppe life, Auj is a cheerful and curious woman, always eager to treat others with a warm smile and a nod, yet she will not be afraid to get angry at, and confront, those who abuse their power, believing that the people in power have the responsibility to help all of their people, not just the rich. She is swift in standing up for and helping others, especially if they have no one else to turn to.
