Background:
The third of Sofine Grinnaux’s five children, and younger brother to Felixient Grinnaux, Quentenain has the dubious distinction of being half hyur, the only mongrel of his familyt, and as a result was looked down upon even more by many in Ishgardian society, even certain people in the Brume. Yet among his own family, he was loved and accepted by all, and at the end of the day, so long he had their love and acceptance, it didn’t matter what cruel things other people said to him.
His elder brother strongly discouraged him from following in his footsteps and getting involved in crime, and so he helped support his family through odd jobs, working where he could (though Felixient never complained about Quentenain’s occasional petty theft and pickpocketing)
Things got tight after his mother died and when his brother went to the Scholasticate, and jobs became more scarce after the Calamity, but the difficult times were rewarded when Felixient graduated from the Scholasticate and landed a job in the Inquisition, the coin his brother made was enough to make things easier on the family, and even allowed Quentenain and Ursielle to travel from Ishgard to the other city states to find work.
Unlike his sister Ursielle, Quentenain did not take to Ul'dah very well, and travelled around as an itinerant worker until he ended up in Limsa Lominsa. After an unwanted encounter with some unsavoury elements of the Lominsan underbelly, he had a run in with a couple of Rogues, and after some tracking and convincing, he was taken into the guild and spent a few years there and becoming adept with their weapons of choice, as well as picking up a lot of their slang.
Eventually his desire to travel and wander around got too much for him, and so he parted amicably with the Rogues and started travelling and working again, though this time as an adventurer, and doing a fair bit of work for some group called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and for the Sons of Saint Coinach.
Personality:
Despite his many trials and hardships in his younger years, Quentenain is quite an easy going, relaxed and friendly person, eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Due to his upbringing, he has a soft spot for those who are in similar situations as his during his childhood, those who are trapped in poverty and are looked down for it, and those who are looked down upon for their race or birth status.
He tries to see the best in everybody, and likes to compliment people he meets, believing that everyone should always have something positive about them that they should feel good about, although his compliments can come across as flirtatious, which he will admit to be doing on occasion.
Much like his elder brother, he has acquired a healthy distaste of the highborn of Ishgard, but is also not very fond of the likes of the Syndicate in Ul'dah. He also picked up a distaste of pirates and slavers in Limsa, especially the pirates that don’t abide by the Code.
